  • Rocky Mountain spotted fever, typhus fever, Q fever, rickettsialpox, and tick fevers by Rickettsiae.
  • Respiratory tract infections by Mycoplasma pneumoniae.
  • Lymphogranuloma venereum, psittacosis, trachoma, inclusion conjunctivitis, and urethral infections by Chlamydia trachomatis.
  • Nongonococcal urethritis by Ureaplasma urealyticum.
  • Relapsing fever by Borrelia recurrentis.
  • Chancroid by Haemophilus ducreyi.
  • Plague by Yersinia pestis.
  • Tularemia by Francisella tularensis.
  • Cholera by Vibrio cholerae.
  • Campylobacter fetus infections by Campylobacter fetus.
  • Brucellosis, Bartonellosis, Granuloma inguinale.
  • Doxycycline is indicated for specific gram-negative microorganisms when susceptibility is confirmed, including E. coli, Enterobacter aerogenes, Shigella species, Acinetobacter species, and Haemophilus influenzae.
  • Doxycycline is indicated for specific gram-positive microorganisms when susceptibility is confirmed, including Streptococcus pneumoniae and Bacillus anthracis (including inhalational anthrax post-exposure).
  • Doxycycline is an alternative when penicillin is contraindicated for gonorrhea, syphilis, yaws, listeriosis, Vincent’s infection, actinomycosis, and infections by Clostridium species.
  • Doxycycline may be adjunctive in acute intestinal amebiasis and severe acne.
