Meet Han Su, a founding partner of 501 Pharmacy, proudly recognized as Chapel Hill’s eight-time “Best of Chapel Hill” winner! Han is a pharmacist dedicated to providing personalized care, helping his patients make informed health decisions, and even serving up a delicious frozen treat to put a smile on their faces. He is also a valued partner of VeganMed, working tirelessly to assist patients in his community navigate the challenges of Alpha-gal Syndrome (AGS).
Han’s favorite ice cream flavor? Carolina Crunch, a treat from Maple View Farms. But for Han, the real sweetness comes from helping his patients. “Owning an independent pharmacy is challenging but rewarding,” he says, with insurance companies being one of the toughest obstacles.
His journey into pharmacy was shaped by being accepted into the University of South Carolina Pharmacy School. “It really set me on the path to where I am today,” Han reflects. Once 501 Pharmacy opened, he quickly realized how prevalent AGS was in his community. “I started to realize how common AGS is when I spoke to my patients and their families,” Han shares. He emphasizes that the hardest part of AGS is helping patients adjust their routines to accommodate their diagnosis.
Finding reliable sources for animal-free medications was another challenge, but with VeganMed’s support, Han found a solution. “VeganMed has been a huge help,” he says. “We keep a list of AGS-friendly medications for staff reference.”
